QB Alex Smith Kicks Media Out Of San Francisco 49ers Lockout Practice

The San Francisco 49ers are holding a players-only minicamp at San Jose State University and, like many other teams, some 49ers players are preventing the media from watching. QB Alex Smith appears to be the main culprit here as multiple Twitter accounts from Bay Area reporters have written about Smith kicking them out.

Per Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee:

Alex Smith is doing his best Tom Brady impersonation by closing the practices to the media. We, of course, are protesting...I strongly disagree w/ Alex Smith closing practice but, hey, that's the most prickly I've ever seen him. A good sign, in my humble opinion.

Apparently, SJSU officials are complying with Smith's wishes. He and others 49ers players made a "very heartfelt donation" to SJSU's Spartan Foundation.

A few are tried to convince otherwise but Alex held firm. Says he will possibly let media watch Thursday.

And Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News has a few more descriptive words on Smith:

Fascinating to be arguing with a steely Alex smith when he was tossing media out of Spartan stadium. Told him I understand why he's doing this. But don't know if he has the right. Checking on that...

Several of these reporters have found ways to watch practice anyway, says Mindi Bach of CSN Bay Area:

I'm in due to hard core reporting; that & the players happen to be practicing right in front of the fence where I'm standing

And here's a picture from that fence:

Glamorous life, I'm sure.
