The Baltimore Ravens made the most noise when the NFL lockout ended telling several high-profile players they would be cut. Among those players GM Ozzie Newsome called to say would be cut are RB Willie McGahee, NT Kelly Gregg, TE Todd Heap and WR Derrick Mason.
McGahee and Gregg may be gone for good but, according to the Baltimore Sun, Heap and Mason could be returning. Per the report, the Ravens hope to bring both Heap and Mason back at a discounted rate. Heap was scheduled to make $4.6 million and Mason at $4.5 million.
That makes a little more sense because Heap and Mason were among the surprise cuts. Both players are still valuable to the team and key targets for QB Joe Flacco.
The Ravens will be able to officially release players on Thursday afternoon and then re-sign them by Friday. Both players are long-time Ravens so I wouldn't be surprised if contracts for both are worked out.
