Donovan McNabb became a Minnesota Viking this week, and among other things, that means he's going to need the number 5, the jersey that belongs to the coolest punter on earth, Chris Kluwe.
It's one of those awkward locker room conflicts happening all over the NFL these next few weeks. Somebody like McNabb will obviously get whatever number he wants, but the onus is usually on the incoming player to sweeten the deal somehow, making sure nobody's feelings get hurt. It usually gets settled with cash and/or mysterious gifts.
So what's Kluwe's asking price?
As he tweeted on Wednesday:
Yep, instead of asking for money or gifts, Kluwe's demanding that McNabb throw in some free promotion his band, Tripping Icarus. It's not really that noteworthy on its own, except to remind everyone that yes, Chris Kluwe moonlights on a bass guitar for a band called "Tripping Icarus." Yet another bullet point on his resume of awesomeness.
As for turning down a possible check from McNabb? Well, "you can't put a price on promotion" seems like something I've heard businessmen say before.
Some shoutouts from McNabb might be what finally puts these guys over the top.
