Mark Brunell Released By New York Jets, According To Report

Mark Brunell was signed by the New York Jets prior to last season as a sort of mentor to Mark Sanchez while he got acclimated to the rigors of quarterbacking in the NFL. Brunell apparently showed his apprentice all that he had to offer as his services are no longer needed in New York.

The Jets released Brunell on Friday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, along with cornerback Will Billingsley and guard Marlon Davis.

Brunell has to be creeping toward the end of his professional football career considering he'll turn 41 in September, but one would have to think there are still teams out there willing to pay the 16-year NFL veteran to take a young quarterback under his wing and show him the ropes if that's something Brunell has any interest in doing.

The three-time Pro Bowl player appeared in eight games for the Jets last season, throwing two touchdowns and an interception in his 13 pass attempts. For his career, Brunell has thrown 184 touchdowns compared to 108 interceptions with his best years coming for the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars.
