Kelly Gregg Leaves Ravens, Heads To Chiefs, According To Report

The Kansas City Chiefs have lost a pair of unrestricted free agent defensive linemen so far in free agency with NT Ron Edwards and DE Shaun Smith heading to the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans, respectively. That left them with a hole in the middle of the defensive line with just third-year NT Anthony Toribio and rookie NT Jerrell Powe in the fold.

The solution: sign NT Kelly Gregg. Per National Football Post, Gregg agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiefs.

The 34-year old Gregg has been with the Baltimore Ravens since the 2001 season anchoring the middle of the defensive line. He's 6'0" and 330 pounds and, with a one-year deal, I'd put my money on Gregg turning into the Chiefs starting nose tackle.

This is really the best move for them. The Chiefs are focused on building through the draft so bringing Gregg in on a one-year deal allows Powe (and Toribio) time to develop. Another target folks thought they were looking at is former San Francisco 49ers NT Aubrayo Franklin, who is a free agent.
