Mark Ingram Signs Rookie Contract With Saints
The Saints may have shipped former first-rounder Reggie Bush to the Dolphins this week, but their new workhorse is now locked up and ready to roll in New Orleans. Pro Football Talk reports that Mark Ingram and the Saints have agreed on a four-year deal; the first three years are guaranteed, and there's an option for the fifth year, but financial terms have not been released.
Ingram could be the Saints' best every-down back since at least Deuce McAllister, or perhaps even Ricky Williams. The 2009 Heisman Trophy winner averaged over five yards per carry during his collegiate career at Alabama — over six per carry in 2009, when he racked up 1,658 yards and scored 17 touchdowns — and joins a Saints backfield that includes Chris Ivory and Pierre Thomas.
The Saints haven't had a 1,000-yard rusher since McAllister made it to that plateau in 2006.
