NFL Free Agency: Jamaal Anderson, Colts Reportedly Agree To One-Year Deal

Pro Football Talk reports that former Atlanta Falcons defensive end Jamaal Anderson will play for the Indianapolis Colts in 2011.

Defensive end Jamaal Anderson signs one-year deal with the Colts, per league source.

Anderson was the eighth overall pick in the NFL Draft in 2007 out of Arkansas, but he never did much in Atlanta, totaling 4.5 sacks in four years. The Falcons released him late last week in a move designed to clear cap space.

Stampede Blue thinks the Colts will be likely to use Anderson partly as a defensive end and partly as a defensive tackle.

At 289 pounds, he could be a good DE on run downs and, possibly, move to DT on pass downs. The knock on Anderson is that, for a DE, he doesn't have much speed around the edge. However, he ranks pretty solid at the point of attack, bringing down running backs.

Anderson will provide depth at defensive end behind Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis.
