The Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons open their 2011 preseason campaigns with a Friday night contest at The Georgia Dome. The Dolphins are coming off back to back 7-9 seasons and are looking to take some kind of step forward under QB Chad Henne. The Falcons are coming off a strong 13-3 season that was upended by the eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.
The Dolphins enter 2011 with a few new faces and one old friend returning. Jason Taylor was released by the Jets and is back in South Beach, although he will be more of a depth guy at this point in his career. The Dolphins will start a rookie center in 15th overall pick Mike Pouncey. The real training camp battle to watch could be at running back where rookie Daniel Thomas will battle recently acquired Reggie Bush. Although Thomas is the long term answer, a healthy Bush will find himself getting plenty of touches.
The Falcons spent the season making few moves, but the moves they did make were significant. In free agency they added Ray Edwards to play defensive end. The bigger splash was their draft day trade up to the sixth overall pick to grab wide receiver Julio Jones. The Falcons gave up plenty, but if Jones can live up to his potential, they'll have a crazy mix of talent between Jones and Roddy White. Jones will get right in the mix Friday night and look to make an early impact.
