It's been nearly two full years since Plaxico Burress was sent to jail after shooting himself in the leg with a weapon in a New York City nightclub. That means now is about the time for Burress to come out with a tell-all interview about the journey he's taken since then. Right on cue, Burress gave an interview with HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" where he did just that
The New York Post grabbed most of the key quotes, including this one in which Burress calls out Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
"I came out, you know, from my little holding cell to the arraignment, and - (chuckle) I sat down with - with [my attorney]," Burress says. "He was like, ‘We got a problem.' I said, ‘What are you talking about?' He said, ‘Mayor Bloomberg just went on TV, said you should be, you know, punished to the full extent of the law.' And you know what I said after that? I said, ‘Who is Mayor Bloomberg?'"
I think Burress actually knows who Bloomberg is and was simply using that as a device to call him out. Could be wrong, but that seems likely.
Other key quotes include Burress saying that the jury that indicted him saw him merely as an African American with a lot of money and Burress admitting he "lost count" of how many times he cried during his 21-month stint. The interview itself will air on Tuesday and be shown throughout the week.
