Too bad, Chargers fans. Really thought you guys had a shot at a Super Bowl run this year. Unfortunately, Jets head coach Rex Ryan guaranteed a championship first. Chargers GM A.J. Smith recognized the reality that only the team who guarantees the Super Bowl can win it.
"Well, I guess that means this year is out for the Chargers," Smith said. "So we will have to wait until next year -- unless, of course, he's wrong."
Of course, Rex has been wrong the last two seasons so, at least going by past history, he's probably going to be wrong.
Which means the Chargers still have a shot at the Super Bowl and, no, Smith won't be guaranteeing it.
"No guarantee from me," Smith said. "We will just concentrate on trying to win the Vikings game for right now. The only person I can remember that was really good at guaranteeing a Super Bowl victory for the Jets was Joe Namath."
