Baltimore Ravens C Matt Birk is struggling with a left knee injury and hasn't been able to participate in Ravens training camp since the weekend so the team brought someone else in who can: Casey Rabach. The free agent center actually started his career in Baltimore so this is a home coming of sorts.
We're not sure exactly what's up with Birk's knee but the Ravens need a veteran in there who can play right now so Rabach's the man. He was the Ravens third round pick in the 2001 NFL draft and stayed there until 2005 before leaving for the Washington Redskins. He was in Washington from 2005-2010 and hit the open market this summer.
Birk has been wearing a wrap on his left knee though we're not sure of the severity of his injury. Apparently, it's severe enough to warrant another signing at center so it's a situation to keep an eye on.
Rabach's deal is for two years, according to reports, so they could keep him on board if Birk's knee won't hold up. There were retirement questions with Birk following the season but he opted for another year.
