Patriots Vs. Lions Score: Matthew Stafford Comes Out Firing

Stay connected with SB Nation

The Detroit Lions fired out of the blocks on Saturday, taking an early 10-0 lead over the New England Patriots. Detroit starter Matthew Stafford has been nearly perfect thus far, missing on only one pass and throwing for the touchdown while propelling the Lions into the lead. Stafford has put on a show, spreading the ball around and carving up the Patriots defense in the process.

Stafford is seven of eight for 123 yards and a touchdown through the first eight minutes, leading the Lions to a field goal and touchdown the first two times they had the ball. The second drive concluded with a nine-yard strike to Nate Burleson for the touchdown. For the game, Burleson has two catches for 46 yards and Jerome Harrison has two for 51 yards.

On the other side of the ball, it's been slow going for the Patriots. Tom Brady is two of five for 24 yards, with Wes Welker and Danny Woodhead each making catches. The ground game has been nearly non-existent as the Patriots have carried the ball four times for just six yards thus far.
