ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed that former Bills safety Donte Whitner has signed with the San Francisco 49ers.
Perhaps he tweeted a bit too soon because just three hours later ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed that Whitner has signed with the San Francisco 49ers and not the Bengals.
Whether the 49ers trumped the Bengals with a late offer or Whitner just has no idea what he's doing remains to be seen. However we do know that the deal is a 3-year contract worth $11.75 million, $4 million of which is guaranteed.
Whitner was drafted by the Bills in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft and is coming off his most productive season. He amassed 140 tackles and one interception.
