The Tennessee Titans and the New Orleans Saints will use Thursday's preseason game as the final proving ground for players before the start of the regular season.
The Tennessee Titans will take on the Saints in New Orleans in both teams' final preseason tuneup before the regular season. There is still some intrigue left in a game that is notoriously scarce on starters. The Titans still need to pin down a starting running back with Chris Johnson still holding out on his contract. The world found out who Jamie Harper was in Week 2 of the preseason when he ran for 83 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries against the St. Louis Rams. Javon Ringer backed up Johnson last year, but has not been able to participate in the preseason due to a hip injury. If Ringer can't get healthy, look for Harper to start the regular season.
The Saints are having a difficult time locking down a starting ball carrier as well. Rookie Mark Ingram had six carries last week to Pierre Thomas' three, but both scored on goal-line carries in the first quarter. Whoever gets trotted onto the field first on Thursday could have a leg up in the competition, though both backs will likely see their fair share of touches throughout the regular season.
