The 49ers and Chargers square off in their preseason finale at Qualcomm Stadium. The two teams have several smaller roster battles still playing out meaning there is plenty to play for on Thursday. The San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers square off Thursday evening at Qualcomm Stadium in a preseason finale. Both teams have figured out a vast majority of their respective rosters, but there are still some closing battles to figure out. For the 49ers, Anthony Dixon and Kendall Hunter are battling for the second running back spot, Will Tukuafu and Demarcus Dobbs are battling for the fifth defensive lineman role, and the cornerback position opposite Carlos Rogers remains unsettled.
The Chargers have their depth chart fairly settled with a variety of veterans across the board, but they still have some modest position battles of their own. Second round pick Jonas Mouton is looking to impress for more playing time, Seyi Ajirotutu needs to make up for a quiet preseason, and they have a variety of other deeper players that need to get in on the action.
The most interesting story of the game will come in the pre-game stretching sessions. 49ers running back Xavier Omon and Chargers defensive end Ogemdi Nwagbuo are half brothers and will get a chance to meet up before the game. The story is significant because they only discovered they were half brothers nine months ago and this is the first time they will meet in person. They've spent nine months emailing, texting, and skyping, and now they'll get to meet for the first time ever. I'd say that qualifies as a pretty cool story.
