Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Steve Smith will play today against the St. Louis Rams. Smith, added last month as part of Philadelphia’s free agent shopping spree, spent much of the offseason recovering from microfracture surgery on his knee.
The Eagles signed Smith on August 10. He did not practice until August 27, which was a shock in and of itself. Conventional wisdom on Smith said that he would likely miss some of the early season because of his knee injury. Many, including the Giants, thought teams would avoid the free agent for that very reason.
By activating Smith, the Eagles are sending the message that they plan to use their considerable array of offensive fire power this week and throughout the season. Smith joins a group of receivers that includes DeSean Jackson and Jeremey Maclin.
