Chargers K Nate Kaeding might be done for the season as initial tests have revealed he has a torn ACL, according to a report. P Mike Scifres filled in for Kaeding during the Chargers' season opening victory.
The Chargers' special teams' situation just got a whole lot dicier. If you recall, Nate Kaeding left their Week 1 tilt against the Vikings and punter Mike Scifres' filled in admirably, connecting on a 40-yard field goal. Well, it turns out that might become a lot more frequent:
Chargers initial test reveal likely torn left ACL for K Nate Kaeding. MRI in the AM, but they are not hopeful.
Despite Scifres' performance today, this is still a relatively large deal. Kaeding has been one of the better regular season kickers in the league for the past half-decade or so, but has been abysmal in the playoffs. Hm, kind of sounds like the Chargers as a whole actually.
Well, the Chargers did win today, but don't be surprised if your favorite free agent kicker finds himself donning some baby blues next week. It's a tough break for Kaeding, if the MRI proves a torn ACL, but he'll have a job somewhere, if not with the Chargers, somewhere next year.
