In Plaxico Burress, the New York Jets have a big, physical receiver on the outside, giving Mark Sanchez a bit of a safety valve. It's not as though Burress is stretching the field, but having that big target proved effective in the red zone on Sunday as the Jets battled the Dallas Cowboys. And in his return to the NFL after a prison stint, Burress immediately made his presence felt as the Jets downed the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, 27-24.

Burress picked up 72 yards on four catches for the Jets while also turning the tides in the fourth quarter. With the Jets down by 14, Sanchez looked Burress' way, firing a back-shoulder throw to the receiver on the sideline for a 26-yard touchdown.

And, of course, he peeled off and blew up a cornerback on a run at one point, just for good measure.

Burress' return went about as well as could be expected. After dealing with an ankle injury early in training camp and finally getting up to speed, he was able to impact the game while proving to be a valuable weapon in the Jets' passing attack. It wasn't a performance that lit up the stat sheet, but it was solid, and perhaps a positive sign of things to come for Sanchez and the Jets.
