There have been concerns out there that an injury suffered by LB Jon Beason in the Carolina Panthers loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 is serious -- very serious. SB Nation's Cat Scratch Reader talked about what a long-term loss of Beason would do to the Panthers.
This would be a major blow to the team as we would be losing our defensive leader. All I can say is thank God we kept Dan Connor and re-signed James Anderson and Thomas Davis. This news puts a big damper on the amazing performance by Cam. Hopefully the fears are just that and not reality. Fingers crossed.
Unfortunately for Panthers fans, it's not looking good. The team reportedly fears that Beason tore his Achilles, which would likely end his 2011 season. Head coach Ron Rivera called the injury "dire" after the Panthers' loss on Sunday.
Teams usually have a pretty good idea of what these injuries are shortly after the game but an MRI will be done on Monday to confirm. Unfortunately, NFL doctors usually aren't wrong with these sorts of things.
If Beason is done, then the Panthers' loss on Sunday has gone from bad to worse.
At least Panthers fans have Cam Newton's strong performance to fall back on.
