On Newton's first drive, he was 6-of-7 for 84 yards and finished it off with a beautiful fade to Brandon LaFell for a touchdown. The play was reviewed, but it ultimately stood up.
Newton has been nearly as good ever since. In leading the Panthers to a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter, he has now completed 10 of 14 passes for 151 yards. The Panthers have scored on all three of their possessions.
