The Panthers will be looking for a more steady performance from rookie Cam Newton as they look for their first win of the season in a Week 3 encounter with the Jaguars.
If Cam Newton keeps this up, the Carolina Panthers quarterback is going to throw for nearly 7,000 yards and account for about 40 touchdowns. He'll also lead the Panthers to an 0-16 record. In other words, something is probably going to have give and the Panthers would probably just as well it start with an understated performance in a victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3.
There's no denying that Newton has gotten off to quite a dynamic start. In addition to those five touchdowns -- two running -- he has also thrown three interceptions, all of which came in Week 2's loss to the Green Bay Packers. The Panthers will probably be looking for a little less of both this week.
Considering the way the Jaguars looked in Week 2, the Panthers may not need so much heroics anyway. Luke McCown managed to play himself onto the bench after going 6 of 19 for 59 yards and throwing three interceptions to post a 1.8 QB rating (yes, you read that right). Rookie Blaine Gabbert replaced McCown in the fourth quarter and looked fine, going 5 of 6, but it's not yet clear who will be under center on Sunday.
