For the first half on Sunday, the high-flying Lions looked like they had fallen back to earth, had their bubble popped, heard the clock strike midnight and turned into a pumpkin. The Vikings jumped out to a 20-0 lead, prompting fans in Detroit to worry that the same ol' Lions had returned.
But you can't keep a duo like Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson bottled up for long, as the Vikings are quickly learning. Detroit has outscored Minnesota 17-0 after halftime, with Stafford and Johnson hooking up for a pair of touchdowns. Stafford now has 258 passing yards, finding Johnson four times for a total of 49 yards. Tight end Brandon Pettigrew is also having a banner day, catching eight passes for 91 yards.
Things could go from bad to worse for Minnesota, as the Lions just regained possession after Toby Gerhart was stuffed for no gain after the Vikings went for it on fourth-and-short. With a weapon like Adrian Peterson, who already has 82 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, it's a bit curious that Minnesota didn't give the ball to their No. 1 back.
