NFL Scores Week 3, Jaguars Vs. Panthers: Carolina Comes Back For 16-10 Win, Cam Newton's First In NFL

Cam Newton got his first NFL win after leading a fourth-quarter comeback on a rainy day in Charlotte.

Cam Newton has his first NFL win. It came in what was likely one of the rainiest games of the 2011 NFL season, and only after Newton led the Panthers back from an uninspiring start, but a win's a win, right?

Newton found Greg Olsen for a game-winning touchdown pass with just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter to give the Panthers a 16-10 lead that they would hold for the rest of the game. That capped the number one overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft's worst day as an NFL quarterback so far. Newton completed 18 of 34 passes for just 158 yards and that touchdown to Olsen — this, after topping 400 yards in each of the first two games of his NFL career. And the Panthers mustered just 265 total yards in conditions that were more suited to frog choirs than football.

The Jaguars mounted a late drive behind rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert, but it fell short when Gabbert threw an interception to somebody with seconds left in the fourth quarter. Gabbert was adequate in his first NFL start, throwing for XXX yards and a touchdown and tossing only one intereception, but his issues with handling snaps cleanly helped short-circuit a few Jacksonville drives.

Maurice Jones-Drew ran for 122 yards in the losing effort, and Mike Thomas hauled in Gabbert's touchdown pass, which came in a Hail Mary situation at the end of the first half.
