One week after a comeback victory over Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles, Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons almost pulled off another fourth quarter comeback. However, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were able to hold on for the 16-13 victory.
Down 16-3 to start the fourth quarter, Matt Ryan found Julio Jones for a 49-yard gain. He then hooked up with Tony Gonzalez for the team's only touchdown of the game. After forcing Tampa to punt on the ensuing drive, Ryan brought the Falcons to Tampa's 15-yard line for a chance to score the go-ahead touchdown. However, the Falcons settled for a Matt Bryant field goal.
Tampa quarterback Josh Freeman and running back LeGarrette Blount, though, prevented the Falcons from getting the ball back. Freeman picked up a first down on a 13-yard run and then kept handing the ball off to Blount. On 4th-and-1, the Falcons had a chance to get the ball back, but they jumped offside. Freeman knelt the ball a few times to end the game.
The Falcons (1-2) visit the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The Buccaneers (2-1) are at home against the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football next week.
