It's NFL roster cutdown day and there will be some big name additions to the open market as all 32 teams will cut 27 players to get down to the league-mandated 53-man roster. A few of the early names that have been reportedly released include Baltimore Ravens LB Tavares Gooden and St. Louis Rams LB Zac Diles.
Gooden is an inside linebacker that's known to be very talented but has a history of injuries. He started alongside Ray Lewis when he was healthy in 2009 but he's missed a lot of time with injuries. The Ravens reportedly held trade talks with the San Francisco 49ers involving Gooden but have decided to simply release him, according to a report from Aaron Wilson.
Diles is a former 2007 seventh round pick who played his first four seasons in the league with the Houston Texans. He entered free agency this year and signed with the St. Louis Rams on last month before they decided to release him.
Lots of good players are hitting the market on cutdown day and every year there are some big surprises.
