NFL Roster Cuts: New York Jets Waive 26, Trade Dwight Lowery

Stay connected with SB Nation

The New York Jets got down to the 53-man roster limit as they waived 26 players and made a pair of trades on Saturday. The Jets traded away defensive back Dwight Lowery and acquired rookie guard Caleb Schlauderaff, with both moves involving unconditional draft choices. The remaining releases were all straight waiver wire transactions.

The folks at Gang Green Nation were not wildly surprised by the moves, but their 53-man roster still has some question marks. For example, they have Mark Sanchez, Mark Brunell and Greg McElroy at quarterback, but McElroy underwent surgery this week on his throwing thumb. That leaves the team with two quarterbacks while McElroy recovers from the surgery, and one of those quarterbacks is an aged Mark Brunell. One would imagine a roster move would be in the offing at some point in the coming days, unless the team is that confident with only two quarterbacks for now.

Head over to Gang Green Nation to discuss all things related to the New York Jets.
