Everette Brown Waived By Carolina Panthers

Adam Caplan tweets that the Carolina Panthers have parted ways with defensive end Everette Brown. The cut comes as a surprise, but it ends a disappointing series of transactions for the Panthers, who traded their 2010 first-round draft pick to the San Francisco 49ers (which the 49ers later used on Mike Iupati) in order to get Brown in the second round in 2009 (they also got a fourth-round pick in the deal).

SB Nation’s Panthers blog, Cat Scratch Reader, published a look at the Panthers’ depth chart Sunday morning, and it was clear that Carolina would have to continue making moves, because they had very little depth at defensive tackle, in particular. They could also stand to add another cornerback. Brown’s departure clears roster space for one of those moves.

Brown, 24, had six sacks and one interception in two seasons with the Panthers. He was stuck behind starting defensive ends Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson.
