Led by Kevin Kolb, the Arizona Cardinals head into their Week 1 match-up against the Carolina Panthers as heavy favorites.
When the Carolina Panthers travel to University of Phoenix Stadium to take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 of the NFL season, both squads will have a dramatically different look than the last time they were in the public eye. Yet even with all the uncertainty, the slightly retooled Cardinals are heavy seven-point favorites over the completely rebuilt Panthers according to the oddsmakers.
Both teams head into the season on the heels of atrocious 2010 campaigns. Led by a cavalcade of castoff quarterbacks, Arizona lost nine of their last eleven games to fall to a 5-11 record. The Panthers didn't fare any better, plummeting to a league worst 2-14 record on the back of equally horrible quarterback play.
But now much has changed, and both franchises have their signal caller of the future. Kevin Kolb will look to connect with Larry Fitzgerald and push the Redbirds back into national relevance. Likewise, number-one draft pick Cam Newton aims to reinvigorate the career of former All-Pro receiver Steve Smith and lead the Panthers back from the cellar.
Nonetheless, with all the fresh faces it's no wonder Vegas has this match-up pinned as one of the lowest scoring of the week. At this point the over/under for the game rests at 37 points, with a -110 line on either side.
