The New York Giants are early 2.5 point favorites in their Week 1 divisional battle against the Washington Redskins.
The battle for the NFC East kicks off early as the New York Giants and Washington Redskins renew their decades-old rivalry in the opening week of the NFL season. With tremendous uncertainty surrounding both teams, oddsmakers over at Odds Shark have pinned down the New York Giants as 2.5 point favorites. The over/under is currently hovering at 37.5.
The road to get here for each franchise has not been smooth, to say the least. The Giants spent an entire offseason frustratingly attempting to hash and rehash a new deal with Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who elected to engage in a very public war of words with ownership. Likewise, the Washington Redskins refused to name a starting quarterback until the the very last week of preseason, instead allowing the thrilling twosome of Rex Grossman and John Beck to battle it out.
But hope springs eternal in the NFC East. With both teams craving a return to the postseason, a pair of once-fearsome defenses must attempt to return to their past glories as they carry their franchises to the promise land. Expect this one to be a old-fashioned knock-down, drag-out game.
