Jets eliminated from playoffs after Mark Sanchez throws three interceptions in loss to Dolphins.

Needing Mark Sanchez to be at his best in order to make the playoffs, the New York Jets instead received a forgettable performance. The Jets quarterback tossed three interceptions as New York (8-8) fell 19-17 to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday and were eliminated from the playoffs.

Sanchez threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter, including one when the Jets were on the Dolphins' 10-yard line needing a touchdown to take the lead, and threw for just 207 yards. All three of Sanchez's interceptions were converted into field goals. Sanchez did throw two touchdowns, including one that closed the deficit to two points late in the fourth quarter, but the Jets were unable to recover the ensuing on-side kick.

That was the Jets' third straight loss to close out the season. In those games, Sanchez threw seven interceptions and was picked off at least twice in every game.

Missing leading rusher Reggie Bush, the Dolphins did not look particularly strong on offense. Matt Moore was picked off twice and threw for just 150 yards. Miami picked up just 210 yards of total offense in the game. Their offense was almost entirely kick Dan Carpenter, who hit four field goals, including a 58-yarder just before halftime.

But their defense was up to the task. Although they allowed 374 yards of total offense to the Jets, they created turnovers when they needed to. It was the final NFL game of Jason Taylor's career. It appeared he scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but it was overruled on replay.
