Saints Vs. 49ers, NFL Playoffs: New Orleans Forced To Punt Again

Stay connected with SB Nation

It feels like there is a theme developing here. Once again, the New Orleans Saints have produced a relatively big play in the early part of a drive. Once again, the San Fransisco 49ers have made an adjustment afterwards, stepped up and made a big stop on third down. The Saints have punted once again, and the Niners have a chance to build on their 20-14 lead late in the third quarter.

Drew Brees completed a 19-yard pass to Devery Henderson and a 12-yard pass to Jimmy Graham to get his team into 49ers territory, but then missed his next three pass attempts. With Pierre Thomas out and the Saints trailing, he's up to 43 pass attempts. He's completed 27 of them, which isn't great considering that he was 20-25 at one point.
