VIDEO: 49ers Offense Resorting To Failed Halfback Passes From Frank Gore To Alex Smith

The most complimentary thing that can be said about the San Francisco 49ers' offense, in the midst of one of the least exciting performances in NFL playoff history: at least the trick plays are failing spectacularly.

The Niners went three and out on their third drive of the second half against the New Orleans Saints, but the second down halfback pass from Frank Gore to Alex Smith was amusing.

Gore would have one-tenth as many pass attempts as he does rushes, but that throwback was deemed a backward pass, meaning that Smith's stumbling failure to do anything with it goes on his stat line as a loss of yardage. Letting Gore carry the ball? That would make too much sense.
