Former St. Louis Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo has agreed to join the New Orleans Saints as new defensive coordinator, according to Jay Glazer.
It would be a trade of sorts for the two teams. Spagnuolo was fired on Black Monday as the head coach of the Rams. The Saints lost defensive coordinator Gregg Williams to Jeff Fisher, who took over at new coach of the Rams.
Before becoming the Rams head coach in 2009, he was the New York Giants defensive coordinator for two seasons, including the team’s 2007 Super Bowl-winning season best-remembered for it’s smothering defense. Before that he worked under Jim Johnson on the Eagles defensive staff. Earlier this week, Spagnuolo was reportedly headed to the Philadelphia Eagles in the same capacity but now that’s apparently not happening.
