Jeff Fisher now officially has two suitors. Earlier on Monday reports surfaced that Fisher is set to interview with the St. Louis Rams after Steve Spagnuolo was fired. Now the Miami Herald reports Fisher will interview with the Miami Dolphins at some point as well.
This shouldn't be a surprise. The Dolphins need to make a splash with their next hire to rejuvenate the franchise and with Jon Gruden reportedly staying at ESPN Fisher is clearly the most accomplished coach available.
Armando Salguero details the reasons the Dolphins needs to hire Fisher.
Fisher is the best available coach on the current market. And so it makes sense he is expected to be the first coach the Dolphins interview outside of Todd Bowles, who will fulfill the team's Rooney Rule requirement. Fisher has taken a team to the Super Bowl. He was widely respected enough to be named co-chairman of the NFL's pretigious Competition Committee. He represents rock-solid ability in a market that offers little certainty.
The Dolphins finished this season at 6-10 after starting 0-7. It's not like there's no talent on this team. They're a quarterback away from being a legitimate playoff contender.
