The Indianapolis Colts fired longtime executive Bill Polian on Black Monday and from the sound of it both sides took the news pretty well. Team owner Jim Irsay indicated that he and Polian hugged after it was all said and done and now Polian has released a statement thanking Irsay for his support over the last 14 years.
I would like to thank Jim Irsay and the Irsay family for all they have done for me over the past fourteen years. I'm grateful for all the support the fans have shown us in good times and bad. Indianapolis has been a wonderful place to live and work. Most of all I would like to thank the players, coaches and staff who have played a pivotal role in this magnificent journey. I will miss them all.
As Irsay said, the "time had come" for the two sides to part ways. With the No. 1 pick, the Colts were entering a new era and they needed a new direction.
And now we look to Polian's next landing spot, if he has one. He's been a winner everywhere he's gone so Polian should be a sought after commodity.
