Greg Schiano Reportedly Canceled Trip To Joe Paterno's Funeral To Negotiate With Buccaneers

The news came out on Thursday morning that Rutgers coach Greg Schiano was reportedly signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their new head coach.

Tom Luicci of the New Jersey Star-Ledger is now reporting that the Rutgers coach canceled his planned trip to Joe Paterno's funeral to negotiate with Tampa Bay. Right or wrong, it's a move that people on Twitter apparently have strong feelings about.

The move of Schiano to the Bucs seemed to come out of left field, but more reports indicated that the Bucs had been interested for some time and that they were far from the only NFL team Schiano had been in contact with.

According to Luicci, Calls placed to Schiano and Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti by The Star-Ledger were not immediately returned.

Schiano

I don’t think this will last for Tampa Bay. He already failed the good character test and coming from the Big East to the NFL is quite the leap. Would have made more since for Tampa to make an offer to a Southeast Conference coach. Join our blog @
