Jan 27, 2012 - The Miami Dolphins hired Joe Philbin from the Green Bay Packers as their new head coach last week and now Philbin was worked quickly to establish both of his coordinators. The Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins are expected to hire Kevin Coyle as defensive coordinator and Mike Sherman as offensive coordinator.
Both coordinators bring along a wealth of experience -- 69 years of coaching, as the Miami Herald points out. Sherman was the Packers head coach from 2000-05 and most recently the Texas A&M football coach. Coyle comes from Cincinnati where he coached the Bengals defensive backs.
The men have known each other for years. Sherman first hired Philbin in 2003 with the Packers and Coyle has known Philbin for years.
I like the move of adding these guys that have a lot of experience. Philbin is a first time head coach and having experienced coaches on your side to help guide you through the early stages of being a head coach can be a good thing. Of course, it can also be a bad thing, if Philbin struggles in the coming years, because the Dolphins would have an experienced interim coach readily available.

Did they call him...
in someone’s driveway when they hired him?
When I think of Texas A&M, I think of all the guys dressing like state troopers, all reciting "And on the third day, God created the Remington bolt-action rifle, so that Man could fight the dinosaurs. And the furkin' tsippers."
