NFC Wild Card 2012: New York Giants Are 'Battle Tested'

Stay connected with SB Nation

The New York Giants will host the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Wild Card round of the 2012 NFL playoffs. The Giants are five years removed from their own Super Bowl run so, as head coach Tom Coughlin notes, many of their players are familiar with what's at stake right now.

"We have been in playoff games for the last three weeks. We are battle tested in a lot of ways because we have played some really outstanding football teams all down through the second half of the season," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Monday during his meeting with reporters. "What I told them was the straight up truth, this is the playoffs. There are 12 teams in the playoffs and 20 teams go home, it is a single-elimination tournament and if you win, you go on. If you lose, you go home."

The two stiffest tests in the NFL both come from the NFC -- Packers and Saints. The Giants have a formula that can beat those high-powered offenses. They have terrific defensive linemen that can rush the passer and Eli Manning can put up points as well.

But first the Giants will have to get past the Falcons, which comes this weekend in New York.
