Lovie Smith Won't Be Fired; Bears Coach Will Be Back In 2012

Despite finishing the 2011 season with losses in five of their final six games, the Chicago Bears have said they are brining back head coach Lovie Smith. During his eight seasons as head coach, Smith has led the Bears to a 71-57 record.

The decision to bring Smith back for a ninth season, though, seemed in doubt. After Jay Cutler went down with a season-ending injury on Nov. 20, the Bears were sitting at 7-3 and had won five straight games. But without Cutler, the team absolutely fell apart.

Five straight losses immediately followed as the Bears failed to score more than 21 points in any of their final six games. It appears that General Manager Jerry Angelo is taking the brunt of the blame, as he was fired on Tuesday.
