The Oakland Raiders have found their general manager. According to an ESPN report, the Raiders plan to hire Reggie McKenzie, who interviewed with the club earlier this week. McKenzie comes from the Green Bay Packers and since they're still in the playoffs the move can't officially be announced until their season is over.
McKenzie comes to Oakland with a recommendation from Ron Wolf, the former Packers GM who spent years in the Raiders organization. Wolf strongly recommended McKenzie but the Packers personnel man is a hot commodity all on his own, perhaps the hottest GM name on the market this year.
Owner Al Davis operated as the team's GM before he passed away last year so this is a new organizational set-up for the Raiders. McKenzie will work with head coach Hue Jackson, which should be an interesting relationship.
McKenzie is a former NFL player. He's been in the Packers organization since 1994.
