AFC Wild Card 2012: Steelers-Broncos Point Spread Is Unusual

Stay connected with SB Nation

It's not surprising that the betting line for the Steelers vs. Broncos AFC Wild Card matchup has Pittsburgh as the favorite to beat the Tim Tebow-led Broncos. But the point spread is a still eye-opening.

The Steelers opened as eight-point favorites at Denver, according to OddsShark.com. This marks just the second road playoff team in NFL history to be favored by MORE THAN a touchdown. (History Lesson: The first was the Saints, 10-point favorites at Seattle in 2010.)

At 8-8, the Broncos limped into the postseason on a three-game losing streak and Denver actually has a losing record at home this season. Meanwhile, the Steelers went 12-4 this season and won five our of their eight road games in 2011.

But bet carefully, America. That Saints team that was all but assured a first-round win against the Seahawks? They got run out of the building in Seattle by Marshawn Lynch, who is empowered by Skittles the way Tebow is empowered by the lord.
