Josh McDaniels will be re-hired as the New England Patriots offensive coordinator, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

With offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien agreeing to become Penn State's next head coach, New England now is expected to hire Rams offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as an offensive assistant coach, according to an NFL source.

Earlier this week the St. Louis Rams gave Josh McDaniels permission to seek a position on another team and out of his contract. On Friday the New England Patriots were given permission to speak with McDaniels about returning as the team's offensive coordinator to replace current offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien. According to the report, O'Brien will finish out the playoffs as the team's offensive coordinator.
