Chiefs Head Coaching Search: Romeo Crennel Expected To Get Job

Stay connected with SB Nation

After a few days of rumors tying names like Josh McDaniel and Jack Del Rio to the Kansas City Chiefs, the team has apparently decided to promote from within. Romeo Crennel is expected to be named the Chiefs new head coach on a permanent basis, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The decision doesn't come as much of a surprise. Crennel went 2-1 with the Chiefs after taking over for the dismissed Todd Haley for the team's final three games of the regular season. Players reportedly revered him in the locker room as well. Still, he carries the stigma of being another Bill Belichek castoff that has struggled as a head coach before. Crennel went 24-40 as head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2005 through the 2008 season.
