Bengals Vs. Texans, AFC Wild Card 2012: Mike Nugent Gives Cincy 10-7 Lead

Stay connected with SB Nation

The Cincinnati Bengals have tried a "Big play to get into field goal range, then kick a field goal" strategy twice in Saturday's AFC Wild Card game with the Houston Texans. On the second try, it worked, and a Mike Nugent field goal has given the Bengals a 10-7 lead.

The Bengals got their second big play of the day via Andy Dalton's mobility: their quarterback got out of the pocket and created a passing lane, then found Donald Lee for a 36-yard gain. The Texans tacked on another 15 yards to that play with an unnecessary roughness penalty, but the Bengals stalled in Houston territory yet again, with Dalton throwing for a loss, throwing a near-interception, and tossing a shovel pass for no gain once the Bengals got into field goal range.

Nugent made the 37-yard field goal after missing one from 50 yards earlier in the game.

Dalton has been excellent for the Bengals, completing 12 of 16 passes for 121 yards.
