Denver went deep on the drive before, which ended with a 30-yard touchdown to Eddie Royal. That put Pittsburgh on the field, down 7-6, and needing to come away with a few more points in the second quarter.
David Johnson dropped a short pass over the middle that he probably should have had. Not to be outdone by Tim Tebow, Ben Roethlisberger hit Mike Wallace for what looked like a 52-yard pass. Wallace's speed was on display, as he got behind coverage, but his catch looked a little iffy. Denver challenged the catch, and it was ruled that he never had control of the ball as he went to the ground.
On third down, the Steelers tried to get it back. Roethlisberger targeted Emmanuel Sanders, who ran to the left sidelines out of a bunch formation. It came up short, forcing Pittsburgh to punt.
