Stay connected with SB Nation

It all seems so simple on the surface. Since the forward pass was introduced in football, it's always gone ... forward. For most of us, this is intuitive -- the description is in the name, after all.

Also, the pass didn't go forward. It was a backwards pass, which we, in the business, like to call a fumble. That's the thingamabobber that goes backwards and hits the doohickey (ground).
