Matt Cassel injury: Chiefs QB yet to be cleared

Denny Medley-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Matt Cassel is out of Wednesday's practice and his status for Sunday is still up in the air

Matt Cassel is out of Wednesday's Kansas City Chiefs practice while still recovering from a concussion suffered last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, according to a tweet from Kansas City Star Chiefs writer Adam Teicher. Cassel has yet to be cleared by doctors and his status for this weekend's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is up in the air.

Cassel was knocked out of the 9-6 loss to the Ravens on a brutal hit by Haloti Ngata. Chiefs fans have taken some flack all week for apparently cheering as an injured Cassel walked to the sideline following the play. Those fans are frustrated by Cassel's lack of production for the 1-4 Chiefs. The quarterback has struggled to a 66.2 rating with five touchdowns, nine picks and a 58.5 completion percentage.

Backup quarterback Brady Quinn would get his first start for the Chiefs if Cassel is unable to go this weekend.

The Chiefs visit the Bucs at 1 p.m. Sunday.
