Vikings vs. Redskins, Week 6: Washington executed, Minnesota did not in Sunday's loss

Stay connected with SB Nation

A dynamic performance from Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III downed the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, 38-26.

The Vikings three key offensive players performed well. Christian Ponder was 35-of-52 for 352 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss, and running back Adrian Peterson rushed for 79 yards on 17 carries. Wide receiver Percy Harvin continued his impressive 2012 campaign with 133 yards on 11 receptions. Still, the Minnesota offense struggled to convert red zone visits into touchdowns, and 26 points was not enough to overcome the Redskins offense led by Robert Griffin III, who threw for one touchdown and ran for two touchdowns in the second half.

Christopher Gates of SB Nation's Minnesota Vikings blog, The Daily Norseman, writes that Sunday was simply a case of one team outperforming the other team.

They got beat.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that the Minnesota Vikings beat themselves, because they didn't. I'm not going to tell you they got jobbed by the referees, because they didn't....The biggest difference in today's game comes down to a simple matter of execution. After three quarters of play, both teams had made four trips into the red zone. The result of those four trips for each team:

Minnesota: Field goal, field goal, field goal, field goal

Washington: Field goal, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown

The Vikings fall to 4-2 following the loss. Their next contest comes next Sunday versus the Arizona Cardinals.
