The Miami Dolphins were able to notch their third victory on the season and their second home win after the team held on to defeat the visiting St. Louis Rams by the score of 17-14.
While it was a low-scoring game, Miami's run game struggled on Sunday as featured running back Reggie Bush accumulated just 17 yards on 12 carries. Instead, it was rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill who shouldered the load, completing 21 of 29 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns, to hold off a late comeback attempt from the Rams.
As it has in all of Miami's victories, it was the Dolphins defense that carried the team to the win on Sunday in the low-scoring affair. While the defense did keep the Rams out of the end zone, the team's run defense allowed quite a lot of yardage. Nonetheless, the team's defense extended an impressive streak, as noted by Kevin Nogle of SB Nation's Dolphins blog, The Phinsider.
The Dolphins came into the game with the number one ranked rush defense, but were gouged for 162 yards on the ground today. However, the team extended the NFL's current streak for most yards without allowing a 100-yard rusher to 20 straight games. Rookie Daryl Richardson led the Rams with 76 yards on 11 carries.
Miami will now head into a bye week and prepare to visit the New York Jets for a week 8 divisional showdown.
