Tom Heckert is uncertain of his job status with the Cleveland Browns following the change in ownership and Mike Holmgren's likely departure.
The Cleveland Browns are under new ownership in Jimmy Haslam, and reports are swirling regarding team president Mike Holmgren and his job status. When Holmgren will depart the team is still up in the air, but all reports have him stepping aside in favor of former Philadelphia Eagles executive Joe Banner.
That brings the status of general manager Tom Heckert into question, and according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, he's not optimistic about his job status:
#Browns GM Tom Heckert, who's drafted well, not optimistic about surviving this ownership change, league source told me.Changes after yr.

Heckert's moves as general manager have generally been well-received. He maneuvered to land the Browns both Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden in the 2012 NFL Draft, and gave up a premiere draft pick to land wide receiver Josh Gordon in the supplemental draft. All of those players look to be the backbone of Cleveland's future offense, so at the very least, he's put the team in a good position.
When the rumors regarding Banner and Holmgren first started, there wasn't much said about Heckert, and to this point, this is the only thing of substance that has been said regarding his future with the organization.
